DRY RUN
... but it's already raining ! | 04.06.2011 |
Clement Desalle and Ken Roczen were the big winners on a hot and sticky day at St Jean D'Angely. GP qualification is always a dry run for the following day's GP, but race day could be very different this weekend as the heavy rain forecast by the met office has already started to fall during the EMX2 moto which ends the first day of action !

| SCORCHED EARTH | 02.06.2011 |
The early arrivals at St Jean D'Angely got a shock when they glanced across the valley at the hillside track. Blue flag man Chris Warren was far from being the only one to gasp: "Where's the grass gone ?" But on closer inspection it was evident the grass was still there, though a farmer wouldn't get much milk from cows grazing on such pastures - both sides of the valley were like burnt earth. "It has hardly rained here since the beginning of April," admitted one club worker. But showers are forecast for the weekend. The other thing which one sees immediately is the vast amount of work which the club has invested on both the track and infrastructure with much track widening, some of which which undoubtedly lead to more lines, anda great deal of levelling above the spectator banking to provide hard standing for the VIP arenas which finance the modern sport as well as extra banking at the end of the track. St Jean D'Angely will also host the Nations in September.
Rain is forecast for this weekend, but FIM Race Director Dave Nicoll, who owns a farm a hundred miles south of St Jean, warned: "The met office has been promising that for two months .. but it never came. Down at my place the ground is like concrete." And St Jean press officer Pascal Haudiquert added: "I am staying at a local farm for the weekend, and the owner told me he is sure the weather will stay dry this weekend." And farmers usually know !

DEAN WILSON GOES TOP
... despite banging bars with Barcia
| 29.05.2011 |
Dean Wilson moved into the lead of the AMA 250 National series at a hot, humid and blustery Freestone Raceway in Texas even though a collision with arch-rival Justin Barcia as the duo disputed the lead in moto two cost the Scot the overall to Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Tyla Rattray. Chad Reed took two wins in the 450 class as Ryan Dungey dnf'd and the highest-placed home-spun rider in either American series is Ryan Villopoto, 21 points off the pace !

| TRAIN & CHILL IN GALICIA'S TOURIST RESORT | 26.05.2011 |
An enterprising motocross facility in north-western Spain on the outskirts of one of the region's leading tourist resort has linked up with a local hotel and spa to offer a package deal to the world's top motocrossers as they look for somewhere to train and chill during the week between next month's Portuguese and Spanish GPs.

| SECOND MOTO TURNAROUND | 22.05.2011 |
David Philippaerts and Jeffrey Herlings turned around first moto defeats to take home the GP wins at Indaiatuba in Brazil. Clement Desalle and Ken Roczen keep the red plates despite crashes, but Tommy Searle paid a heavy penalty for that single mistake during the qualification race.
The combination of a rugged track and the Brazilian winter, with temperatures in the 80s, blue skies and a low sun which became troublesome at the end of the afternoon caught out just about everyone at some time during the weekend and gave the enthusiastic packed house thrills and action aplenty.

SAMBA CRASH PARTY IN BRAZIL
... but Kenny and David were pure class !
| 21.05.2011 |
There were crashes aplenty in the qualification races at Indaiatuba today, but there was no disputing the credibility of victories for Ken Roczen and David Philippaerts.
The German had been pushed down to third in MX2 Pre-Qualifying by Jeffrey Herlings and Tommy Searle but he got away superbly on the loose-surfaced uphill start and that was that: "My timing at the gate was not actually that good, but I practised a lot of starts with my mechanic during the winter and I know how best to feed in the clutch and use my body weight."

| MISSION ACCOMPLISHED | 18.05.2011 |
Dave King and Chris Stone are now back in the UK after a successful trip to the USA - watch Vegas and Glen Helen, ride Amateur Day at the GP track ... and sign up a Team USA for the Vets MX des Nations on September 24/25 !
|
| DOUBLE TOP FOR DESALLE & ROCZEN | 16.05.2011 |
Clement Desalle and Ken Roczen each swept both motos of the US GP to prove their ability under vastly differing circumstances - the first moto of each class was muddy after morning rain, but the Californian sunshine returned in time to dry out the track for moto two. The Belgian and the German also take the series red plates to Brazil.

| ROCZEN AND DESALLE TOP QUALI | 15.05.2011 |
Ken Roczen and Clement Desalle won the qualifying races at Glen Helen; Max Anstie and Shaun Simpson were the top Brits, but all of the UK contingent were in the heat of the action.
|
| NO TAKERS ! | 14.05.2011 |
Andy Summers closed Tech Control at Glen Helen just a few minutes ago ... and there were no takers for the chance to win 100,000 US Dollars in the "American Racer Challenge" put up by the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa of Vegas for any US citizen to win the MX1 class of the Glen Helen GP. With Mike Alessi also pulling out, the leading candidates who could still in theory take the cash are Christian Craig and Weston Peick. An AMA official confirmed that no-one had even called the office yesterday to make enquiries.
